Minutes Read Time

Thesaurus books in background with text: Help Writers and Win Books!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been busy putting together a massive project: creating “master lists” of all the writing craft skills we need for story developmentline editing, and copy editing. Yep, I’m a glutton for crazy-making.

Soon, I’ll offer those lists as downloadable checklists for everyone so we can easily keep track of our progress in learning skills. But I’ll come back to that in a minute…

10 Years of Writers Helping Writers!

During my head-down work on that project, I missed the ten-year anniversary of Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi’s Writers Helping Writers site. Bad me!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I’m a huge fan of Angela and Becca’s work. In addition to their helpful blog (which started as The Bookshelf Muse), they’re the genius duo behind the Emotion Thesaurus, the Positive and Negative Trait Thesaurus, the Urban and Rural Setting Thesaurus, and the recent Emotional Wound Thesaurus books, as well as the One Stop for Writers website.

Yeah, geniuses. *smile*

I’m lucky enough to have been friends with them since early in their Bookshelf Muse days—long before their first book released. I wrote an entry for their old Bookshelf Muse version of the Weather Thesaurus about dust storms and monsoons all the way back in 2011.

Since then, we’ve helped each other out many times over the years. We’ve celebrated each other’s milestones and contributed guest posts back and forth. For the past year, I’ve been one of their Resident Writing Coaches too.

So yeah…I’m super bummed that I missed celebrating their 10-year anniversary with them last week. *sigh*

Let’s Have a Belated Party!

They don’t know I’m doing this, but I want to celebrate their awesomeness. They certainly didn’t stop being amazing just because I’m a week behind the times. *grin*

So here’s what I’m going to do. I’m giving away up to $40 worth of their Thesaurus books—in any format—to one lucky winner.

Let me repeat that: One of you will win your choice of any format combination of $40 worth of their Thesaurus books!

Choose to get all their books in ebook/PDF, just one or two of their books in print (depending on shipping costs to your location), or anything in between—up to $40 worth. Yay!

6 Thesaurus books

These books have helped transform my writing. Their Emotion Thesaurus is the best resource for showing our characters’ emotions, writing in deep point of view, and helping us fix four common writing problems. Becca’s also visited us with tips on how to use the Trait Thesauri books to create characters and how to use the Settings books to create a mood.

To Enter the Giveaway, Help Me Out…

One reason I love being friends with Angela and Becca so much is that we all love helping other writers. (Just take a look at the name of their blog or all of my worksheets for proof. *smile*) So I want this giveaway to help us all—whether you win the prize or not.

Remember at the top of this post when I mentioned my huge project to come up with “master lists” of every writing craft skill we need to learn? To make these lists as “ultimate” and “master” as possible before I turn them into downloadable checklists for us to use, I need your help.

I’m just one brain, and everyone needs feedback. The more eyeballs on those lists the better—thinking of improvements or skills I missed—to make the finished checklists as helpful to all of us as possible.

I created a Master List for each category of skills we need to learn:

Are any skills you’ve learned or struggled with missing from the lists? Do you know of a great, go-to reference post for any of the skills listed? Do you need more explanation for any of the skills (i.e., should I do a blog post on the topic)?

To enter the giveaway you can:

  • share this post on Twitter or other social media (worth one entry—can share and enter every day)
  • share those three Master List posts (each post-share worth two entries—can share and enter every day)
  • leave a comment on the appropriate List’s post to suggest skills to add, reference links to include, or where explanations are needed (earn five entries on each post for quality suggestions)

Keep your entries official by completing the entry form below:

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Help me. Help other writers. Get a chance to win amazing books. Celebrate the awesomeness of Angela and Becca. Woo hoo! *grin*

Any questions about the contest or how to enter? Leave a comment below. Or if you’re not sure which Master List your suggestion should apply to, leave it here for me to figure out. Thanks for helping and celebrating with me!
